OurDad was an amazing father to us girls...my sister. Patty (deceased) Gloria (who currently lives in Reno, Nevada), Sue,(who lives in Murray Utah) and myself, Julie (I have lived in Maui for 25 years) Dad was born on September 29, 1926 in Salt Lake City Utah to our grandparents, Lillie and Harry Frank. We spent most weekends at beautiful dinners at Grandma and Grandpa's and always were with our grandparents on holidays.
Dad learned to play the violin in High School and he sang in the choir at East High School. After he graduated he joined the Navy. He auditioned for Alvino Rey in Chicago and went on to sing and traveled with the band for the troops.
While stationed in Honolulu Hawaii, our Dad met our Uncle Steve Rudy and saw a picture of our Mother. It was instant love and they married in Salt Lake City when he returned to the Mainland. Our Mother and Dad were married for 8 years and divorced in 1955. I was born in 1950, Patty in 1952, and Gloria in 1954. Dad went on to marry his second wife, Georgia, and our sister Sue was born from that marriage. We had the joy of seeing our sister Sue her entire life so we love her and consider her, not a half sister, but a sister.
Dad began his training in radio as a disk jockey and one of the first television announcers at KDYL_TV in Salt lake City. He even had his own TV show, Alan's Alley, a variety show.He interviewed Nat King Cole, Count Basie, and Stan Kenton to name a few.
This was his foundation in creating the Alan Frank & Associates Advertising in 1955. His first client was Peter Harman, who at the time ran Harman's Cafe. Mr. Harman partnered with Colonel Sanders soon after that and created Kentucky Fried Chicken. Dad had that account for 50 years!
Even though Dad loved his work in advertising, he remained a solid musician and performing was his true love.
Dad wrote the son , "The Lovin Child" for our sister Patty when she was just a teenager. I recorded that song on my album, Spiritual Blues, in the Bay Area over 30 years ago. I brought my Dad into the recording studio and let him listen to the song. He cried like a baby and it was such an emotional and loving moment between the two of us. I will never forget it!
Dad had two brothers, Jules, (deceased) and Robert.
Our sister Sue has three wonderful children, Chandee, Sam and Michael. Chandee is married and has two beautiful boys, Aiden and Owen. Sam is married and just had a gorgeous little girl Amelia. My daughter Micah is married and has two precious children, Makena and Henry (I am so fortunate)!
Dad had a son with his fourth wife Nancy (deceased) that we are not in touch with.
Dad and his fifth wife, Beverly, had two sons, Jason and John.
Dad also raised Beverly's daughter of a previous marriage, Susan.
There is not a day goes by that we don't miss our Dad with all our hearts!
On this website you will find a copy of "The Lovin Child" written by our Dad, and you can also hear the recording made on iTunes or CD Baby.
